One out of four responding animal owners are in favor of using a test for early detection of cancer in their pets. More than 40 percent are willing to pay equivalent to 70 USD or more of their own money for the test, and 50 percent might consider asking their veterinarian for a test.

Alertix Veterinary Diagnostics (Alertix) has conducted two market studies to investigate how animal owners feel about matters concerning cancer in pets.

The two Swedish studies included the same amount of dog and cat owners. And it turned out that a third of them had, or used to have had, an animal that had suffered from cancer.

It also turned out that a majority of the respondents considered a cancer test for the dog and the cat to be of great use. Approximately 90 percent of the animal owners would use such a test to detect cancer at an early stage, and three out of four respondents were in favour of using the test for monitoring cancer treatment. The same number thought it would be a good idea to use a cancer test for yearly follow-up of cancer treatment.

A significant proportion of the animal owners also were in favour of paying part of the cost not covered by insurance with their own money. 40 percent declared ready to pay equivalent to 70 USD or more.

Alertix’ CEO Filip Fogdestam regards the result as a clear indication that the business concept of the company is well founded.
